Plano Dance Festival 2018

On April 21 Plano Metropolitan Ballet will host the 16th annual Plano Dance Festival in Downtown Plano’s historic Courtyard Theater.

In 2002 Cindi Lawrence Hanson, founder of Plano Met Ballet, wanted to start an event that celebrated the outstanding dance talent in Plano. This event is a unique opportunity for students and professionals from various organizations to showcase their talents in a non-competitive environment.

“The goal of Plano Dance Festival is to show off to our fine city of Plano what an amazing dance program we can put out with the student dancers and professional dancers here in Plano,” Cindi explained.

Hsuan Chiu Nguyen attested that it has been wonderful exposure for her two daughters, both pre-professional dancers, to be a part of Plano Dance Festival.

“Our girls love the dance experience – the vivid costumes, the exhilaration of being on stage and especially the friends they’ve made,” Hsuan said. “They love to share the stage with the professional dancers and look up to them as role models.”

Hsuan continued to explain how Plano Dance Festival is a truly unique experience for not only the dancers, but also the audience.

“It’s a treat for the audience to see all the incredible talent and the variety of dance styles and choreography,” she said. “It’s a fantastic performance, a real gem in the community!”

The festival showcases various types of dance such as ballet, tap, lyrical and musical theater. Some of the performers that are expected in this year’s showcase include Dallas Neo Classical Ballet, Sydney Blalock Ritchie, 6 O’Clock Dance Theater, Rhythmic Souls Tap Company, Gotta Dance and Plano Metropolitan Ballet.

“There is no better dance in Plano – it’s a showcase,” Cindi said. “We want to get more people in the audience because it is just too good of a program to not fill up the theater.”

Come see the talent for yourself on April 21 at 6:30 p.m. at the Courtyard Theater.
