Parks and Recreation Month kicks off with calendar full of events

For National Parks and Recreation Month, Plano P&R is hosting activities all July long.

Parks and Recreation Month is upon us, and Plano Parks and Recreation are celebrating with programming all month long.

First, there’s Walk Around Plano, where Rec members are encouraged to count the miles they walk or exercise during July at Carpenter Park Recreation Center. Participants are aiming to document 72 miles on their provided map before the end of the month to win a Walk Around Plano t-shirt.

Throughout the month, there are splash times for toddlers, nature hikes for all ages, open plays, swim days and other free activities.

“In recognition of National Parks and Recreation Month, we invite everyone to tap into the power of Parks and Recreation during the month of July,” Director of Plano Parks and Recreation Ron Smith said. “During Park and Recreation Month, we celebrate the broad and impactful reach of parks, trails and recreational opportunities in all their variety, and champion the role these services play in powering personnel well-being, environmental stewardship and community connections. During this month, we also thank the dedicated men and women who help deliver these services to the community in the Plano way…with excellence.”
