Plano Parks & Rec and Children’s Health to host life jacket drive this weekend

Donate life jackets this weekend at Jack Carter Pool for a chance at a swag bag and to meet Larry the Life Vest.

Last year, 76 children drowned in the State of Texas. Several of which were in Collin County, where four children under the age of four drowned in their backyard or apartment pool.

For Water Safety Awareness Month in May, Plano Parks and Recreation is partnering with Children’s Health to provide life jackets and water safety information this Saturday, April 22, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Jack Carter Pool. Special guest Larry the Life Vest will be on site as well.

The organizations will be accepting life jacket donations that are new, coast guard-approved and range from puddle jumpers to adult smalls. The first 50 donors to donate two or more life jackets will receive a swag bag.

On May 13, the life jackets will be distributed for free to youth participants in the Plano Water Safety Fair from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Registration is required.

Children’s Health and the city of Plano’s aquatics staff will be on site performing fittings and providing life-saving information and activities to ensure the start of a safe summer season.
