Every year, K-12 children from each of Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART)’s member cities are eligible to compete in an art contest inspired by a provided theme.
The 2025 theme was ‘Fantastic Journeys Start on DART,’ encouraging students to incorporate attractions that are reachable by DART. The ‘Best Of Show’ winner takes home a $1,250 cash prize, while other winners receive prizes relating to Dallas’ top attractions or gift cards to Half-Priced Books. All winners will be honored at an awards ceremony at the Dallas Museum of Art on April 26, where their art will be on display from April 9 to May 4.
“Art brings real beauty into all of our lives. The creativity and imagination our North Texas students bring to their artwork is astounding,” President and CEO of DART Nadine S. Lee said. “I’m honored that the agency can provide our young artists with an opportunity to show everyone the wonder and brilliance of their work.”
This year, Plano students took home top prizes, including the Best of Show award and first place prizes in two out of four age categories. Their achievements and artwork are below:
Freshman Jasper High School student Wing Hay Tam took home the Best Of Show award.

In the K-2 category, Color Panda Arts Academy kindergartener Lucas Zhang took home first place.

In the grade 3-5 category, Gulledge Elementary third grader Lynnsie Tam took home first place.

In the high school category, Plano East Senior High School senior Arturo Mendiola Quezada took home third.
