Smile Doctors is partnering with Scholastic to bring a summer reading club to neighborhood kids. Reading program kits are available now.

Smile Doctors, a network of affiliated orthodontic practices with a location in Plano is kicking off a summer reading program called Big Smiles or Bust! Summer Reading Adventure in partnership with Scholastic.

The program invites past, current and future patients to pick up the reading road map kit, which includes a bookmark, bag, reading log and pack of five children’s books from Scholastic to get each kid started. To date, Smile Doctors has donated over 11,000 books to patients, schools and libraries.

Parents and families are encouraged to follow the reading log, which will help participating children win an award for every five books read. Children who turn in a completed log with 20 books read by August 1 will receive a gift card to Barnes & Noble.

According to research from the Scholastic Kids & Family Reading Report: 8th Edition, 41% of kids say they get most of the books they read for fun from their school, leaving many kids without access to books for the summer.

“With children out of school for the summer, ongoing access to books and reading beyond the classroom is important – we’re happy to be a resource to help make that happen,” said Jenn McClain DeJong, CMO of Smile Doctors. “We see an increase in patients during summer break, so this program is a natural fit for our practices. Our clinics will welcome smiling faces back multiple times throughout the summer as they come in to redeem their rewards.”

Families with children aged 7-10 are also encouraged to make a free Rising Star orthodontic consultation when they stop in to pick up their reading road map kit. The Rising Star program provides complimentary orthodontic care for children ages 7-10.

Smile Doctors also partners with local schools with their “Tooth Talk” program, where orthodontists visit neighborhood classrooms to discuss oral care and send students home with a goody bag. Interested educators can call Smile Doctors for more information.

Smile Doctors Plano is located in the Custer Park Shopping Center at 2929 Custer Rd. #302.
