Launched in 2014, TEDxPlano is an annual event that celebrates the innovation, creativity and inspiration of local North Texans. TEDx events take place all over the world, inspired by and formulated like TED Talks.

TEDxPlano is a group of idea-lovers who bring people together, focused on sharing ideas with the potential to transform our community. Audience members and speakers range from scientists and innovators to activists and students.

After a hiatus in 2020, the event returns April 10 to Plano’s Courtyard Theater, but in a drive-in format. Attendees will stay in their cars to watch the speakers, each representing a different field of expertise. A very limited number of tickets will go on sale March 11.

“If you can make it to the in-person even this year, I’d encourage you to do it. It’s not the same over-the-top, highly interactive event we usually offer. We don’t think it’s safe to do that yet. But connection is important. Seeing other faces is important. Being part of a group in a shared environment with a shared experience is transformative, even without the bells and whistles,” shared TEDxPlano Curator Shannah Hayley.

This year’s theme is Undaunted, focusing on the ideas of resiliency, perseverance and determination, no doubt inspired by the challenges of the past year. “To us, undaunted means not giving way to fear or discouragement, and remaining committed to purpose and effort,” Shannah explained.

Over the last year, TEDxPlano has made significant efforts to encourage ongoing conversation and to keep our community connected. The team held Salon sessions virtually and even one socially-distanced, in-person Salon event in partnership with Legacy West.

“We are still in a pandemic, but we’ve learned a lot about what we can do to keep ourselves and those around us safe,” Shannah said. “We’ve also discovered new ways of doing things – and it’s taken big effort and big resolve on our part to make TEDxPlano 2021 happen.”
