North Texas Food Bank recently wrapped up its 12th annual Peanut Butter Drive, where cities and organizations compete for peanut butter donations to the food bank all September long for Hunger Action Month.

In total, more than $355,000 and 85,000 pounds of peanut butter were collected throughout September.

Following the drive, North Texas Food Bank held an awards show and celebration on Oct. 21 at NTFB’s Perot Family Campus in Plano. Plano and several Plano-based organizations were among the recognized:

  • Top City: Plano
  • Top City Per Capita: Fairview
  • Top Company: NTT DATA
  • Top School: Rice Middle School
  • Top Educational Organization: Plano ISD
  • Top Faith-Based Organization: JustServe / Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
  • Top Neighborhood: Heritage Ranch (Fairview)
  • Top Community Group: HungerMitao

“The Peanut Butter Drive is about more than jars collected – it’s about coming together to make sure children in our community don’t go hungry,” said Trisha Cunningham, president and CEO of the North Texas Food Bank. “We continue to distribute record amounts of food each year, and these contributions help us provide nutritious options for the more than 254,000 children facing hunger in North Texas. We’re deeply grateful to every person and organization that made this year’s drive such a success.”

This year’s expanded outreach was also made possible by several local volunteer organizations and individuals, including:

  • James Huang – Nihao Food Bank Initiative
  • Ying Jia – Nihao Food Bank Initiative
  • Justin Bitner – Ryan LLC
  • Dustin Davis – Ryan LLC
  • Amy and Howard Dover – JustServe
  • Raj & Anna Asava – HungerMitao
  • Rick Grady – Collin County Homeless Coalition
  • James Thomas – Plano Independent School District

“We’re thankful for the incredible teamwork that made this possible – from our volunteer committee and participating cities to our partners at Kroger, and the State Fair of Texas for encouraging donations on opening day,” Cunningham said. “This drive truly reflects what’s best about North Texas – neighbors helping neighbors.”
