Plano residents now have the option to sign up for a free service called Smart911 that gives 9-1-1 dispatchers immediate information about the caller in an emergency. Unlike landline phones, cell phones do not provide any information to dispatchers. Having basic information like a street address can save crucial seconds in an emergency.

Interested residents create a profile on Smart911 and enter any information they want dispatchers to know if they need to call for help, including allergies, medical conditions, number of residents in a home and even how many pets a homeowner has. Residents have the ability to choose what details they would like to include.
