For over 50 years, The Stewpot has provided support for members of the community who are experiencing hunger and homelessness. Located in downtown Dallas, the organization offers a wide range of services, including a food pantry, medical clinics, social caseworkers, and programs for at-risk youth. The Stewpot is headed by Executive Director, Brenda Snitzer, a Plano resident with extensive experience in local nonprofit leadership.
The Stewpot’s 18th annual ‘Soup’s On’ luncheon gathered nearly 700 attendees at the Thompson Dallas hotel on Monday, February 2. Presented by H-E-B/Central Market, the event’s theme of “Living in Harmony” included an exhibition of works created by artists from The Stewpot Art Program. In addition, a menu of gourmet soups were created by chefs from top local restaurants, including Plano favorites Whistle Britches and Leela’s Wine Bar.
“The ‘Soup’s On’ event reflects the heart of our work and the generous hearts of our donors and partners,” says Snitzer. “It’s more than a luncheon—it’s an expression of our community, reaching out to love our neighbors.”
Broadway star Hailee Kaleem Wright served as this year’s featured speaker, surprising guests with a performance of Katy Perry’s “Firework.” Wright also shared her own story of overcoming homelessness, and her recent experience touring The Stewpot.
“The campus is incredible,” says Wright. “On my tour, I kept hearing them say ‘neighbor’ and ‘our friends here’ and ‘our family here.’ That was so heartwarming.”
