A new list from Forbes Magazine named the City of Plano the twenty-first best employer in Texas. It was also the highest-ranking government entity in the state.
The annual “America’s Best Employers by State” list was created based on an anonymous survey of 70,000 people who work for businesses with at least 500 employees. That data was used to rank up to 101 employers in each state.
According to an introductory article preceding the list, the rankings are intended to capture the differences in how companies act and are perceived in different parts of the country. Out of the 1,382 employers that made the list, 246 were ranked in more than one state.
Nationally, The U.S. Department of State ranked among the best in 31 states. Home Depot and Target both made the list in 29.
The top employer in Texas was NASA. It was followed by The University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston, Oceaneering International and MD Anderson Cancer Center.
Toyota North America was the only other Plano-based company to make the list. Employers in the state’s top ten with a presence in Plano included Capital One, H-E-B and Costco.
