As many return from an extended Independence Day holiday, we’ve checked in with happenings at Plano City Hall, from appreciation holidays to what happened last with our elected officials.
Replacement of Water Meter Transmitters
The City has hired a contractor to replace the faulty water meter transmitters across the city. They have already begun doing so and will continue through early 2026. According to a City newsletter, there are over 70,000 transmitters to be replaced, each will take about 15 minutes, a door tag will be left when the work is completed at each house, and hourly water usage will be available on the customer portal again.
Park and Recreation Month
The month of July is Park and Recreation Month, and the City of Plano is celebrating with free community play-days, late-night pickleball battles, sensory days and other free or paid events.
“Discover how Plano is stronger, more vibrant and more resilient because of parks and recreation. Participate in activities for residents of all ages and abilities, including Walk Around Plano, Play in the Park and Sensory Days. Explore the spaces, programs and people that strengthen our community – one splash pad, trail and yoga class at a time,” a City newsletter encouraged.” The “Build Together, Play Together” theme honors the incredible work of park and recreation professionals across the country, including city employees. From maintaining parks to hosting free events, their impact goes far beyond the playground.”
Citizen Survey
The 2025 Citizen Survey will be mailed out next week, according to the City newsletter. Surveys can also be completed online.
Checking in with P & Z and City Council
Upcoming meetings include a Planning and Zoning meeting on Monday, July 21 and City Council meetings on July 28 and 30.
In the last zoning meeting, commissioners reviewed the site plans for a new vehicle dealer on Tennyson and Dallas Parkway and for the Haggard Farm Townhomes as well as a revised concept plan for the Haggard Farm assisted living facility.
In the last City Council meeting, the council approved an agreement to purchase the former Armstrong Middle School, Davis and Forman Elementary School campuses, a process that the City has been undergoing since May 2024. The City negotiated a price of $8.15 million (from the Economic Development Fund) for the Armstrong property, which it intends to redevelop after a community input period.

Plano is partnering with Carter BloodCare to host First Responder Blood Drives July 11-13 at Plano PD, Plano Fire Training Facility, Chase Oaks Church, Prestonwood Baptist Church and St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church.
An Active Shooter Response Class, hosted by Plano Police Department, will take place on Tuesday, July 15 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Davis Library.
Fix-It Plano will experience a service interruption July 11-12 from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. while the vendor performs maintenance to the system, according to the City of Plano.
