It was an easy decision for owners Duane and Cynthia Zea to open their new business in Plano. “It’s a great city. We raised our kids here. This is home and will always be home,” says Duane. Their popcorn journey began just over a year ago, and now their storefront is a thriving, lively spot. With their two adult children, Taylor and Ryan, they offer the Plano community delicious treats and friendly customer service they’ve become famous for.

Each member of the Zea family brings his or her own unique contribution to the store. While Duane and Cynthia build the business and develop creative ideas, Ryan handles the day-to-day operations of the store. You can often find him popping or mixing up something warm and tasty in the kitchen. Taylor handles social media for the business all the way from her home in California. You’re more than likely to find any one of them behind the counter, offering customers a friendly smile and a taste of their newest flavor.

There are so many choices! Are you looking for a sugar high? Craving a salty snack? Or maybe you’re feeling a little wild and crazy and want something with an extra bite. Duane’s favorite flavor is the Cajun Caramel, while Ryan favors the Spicy White Cheddar. By far, the crowd favorite, as well as Cynthia’s, is the company’s namesake The Legend: a yummy concoction of freshly popped, warm kernels coated with made-from-scratch caramel, drizzled with milk chocolate and white chocolate – and then topped off with a sprinkling of sea salt. Hello?! It doesn’t get much better than that!

Each month Legends Popcorn features a different Flavor of the Month, as well as a fun Legend of the Month. If you’re not sure a particular flavor is for you, the friendly staff is more than happy to provide samples – because who really wants to buy a big ole bag of popcorn they’re not sure they’ll like? You’ll find one you absolutely love, believe me. And if not, hey, they’ll make one up for you. You might be the inspiration for the next Flavor of the Month.

Did you know Yetis like popcorn? Well, now you do.

The Zeas are big supporters of Plano ISD (Cynthia is a teacher at Plano Senior High and retired softball coach). You can purchase flavors of popcorn named for several local high schools, like The Panther, The Ranger and the maroon and white mix, The Wildcat, as well as gift buckets and tins representing professional and collegiate Texas teams. You’ll often find high school kids, and college kids home for the summer, working behind the counter.

Legends Popcorn also believes in supporting their community and other small businesses by securing 90% of the products they use from local vendors. They supply area businesses with popcorn for meetings and parties, and brides even have come in to have “popcorn tastings” before the big day.

Stop by when you get a chance. Be sure to get plenty when you’re there. Legends Popcorn is so good, you won’t want to share.
