Wednesday, June 26 marks Norma’s Cafe’s 68th anniversary. To celebrate, the restaurant will host a fundraiser benefitting Big Brother Big Sisters Greater Dallas (BBBS), a nonprofit and America’s biggest volunteer-supported mentoring organization.

On its anniversary, Norma’s Cafe will offer its chicken fried steak and limited-edition Birthday Cake Pie for the 1950s cost of $1.85 ($2 including tax). All proceeds will go towards BBBS.

All five full-service locations will provide this promotion for dine-in guests, including the Plano location. The Garland “On-The-Go” cafe will offer the $1.85 deal for walk-up and pick-up service that day.

The Norma’s Cafe owner, Ed Murph was a mentee of the program in the 1950s. His “big” was World War II veteran Bill Barnett.

“Wonderful memories and lifelong friends were made in that experience,” Murph said. “We are so proud to partner with such a terrific organization.”

BBBS focuses on ensuring all youth in its program achieve educational success, avoid risky behavior, gain confidence and better relationships. The program pairs children (“Littles”) with screened mentors (“Bigs”). The nonprofit has been running for 97 years.

“Celebrating 68 years in business is an absolute accomplishment, and Norma’s is delighted to continue to expand our reach to more guests who live in and serve this city that we love,” said Kurt Metzger, vice president of operations for Norma’s Cafe. “Norma’s is a 100-year company in the making. We have great appreciation for those that have made us a success over the years, and we are also honored to connect with the next generation of future Norma’s guests.”
