NTX Beer Week 2016

Chug-a-lug, chug-a-lug. North Texans who celebrate the return of fall with a personal favorite locally brewed beer and/or a few seasonal selects, will want to mark down November 11-20 on the calendar. That’s right, NTX Beer Week is just a few popped tops away.

North Texas Beer Week actually began as Dallas Beer Week in 2010. By 2012, organizers quickly realized that the rest of the Metroplex was just as eager to chug a few brews as the gents in the Dallas city limits. Not that anyone needs a reason to drink craft beer for 10 days, but NTX Beer Week Executive Director Matt Dixon has a pretty good one. “Our mission is to increase the awareness and responsible consumption of craft beer in the North Texas region,” he says. “Last year, there were just over 400 official events at 100 participating venues.”

NTX Beer Week 2016 will see dozens of North Texas breweries, such as Lakewood Brewing Co., Community Beer Co., and Revolver Brewing host tastings and entertainment in-house and at pubs and restaurants across the Metroplex.

The crown jewel of NTX Beer Week is the third annual Brewer’s Ball which will take place Friday, November 18 at the Omni Dallas. The shindig will not only showcase select beers from more than 40 breweries, but also hand-picked recipes from some of the finest restaurants in town. Matt says that folks can expect to see the Omni Dallas lit up at night in some sort of North Texas Beer Week theme and to look forward to some special guests. “We will also have a beer garden on the Omni lawn that day,” Matt says, “and a special toast with Dallas mayor Mike Rawlings.”

For anyone needing a few suggestions for local beers, Matt recommends Community Mosaic IPA, 3 Nations GPA, Lakewood “French Quarter Temptress,” Peticolas’ “Sit Down or I’ll Sit You Down” and Oak Highlands’ “Derelict.” With basically every brewery in North Texas participating, there should be no problem trying something new.
