Plano’s Studio Movie Grill is getting a fancy new look. The renovation is overdue for Studio Movie Grill’s original location, which just celebrated its 15-year anniversary. They originated the concept with the Granada Movie Grill in Dallas in 1993.
SMG Plano is closed during the renovation and is expected to reopen in early October. Studio Movie Grill’s Founder and CEO Brian Schultz says, “Right off the bat, you’re gonna see a beautiful, midcentury modern concierge counter and a bar/lounge that really is gonna be unrivaled in the Plano area.” The bar/lounge area will offer not only cocktails, but a full dinner menu. The lobby will also feature a large seating area where you can wait for your friends to arrive before the movie.
But the upgrades to the actual movie viewing experience are the best thing about this transformation. The auditoriums are being completely gutted and rebuilt from the ground up. Four extra screens are being added, and every screen will feature the most cutting-edge sight and sound technology available.
Every auditorium will have tiered seating. Gone are the tables that you awkwardly had to share with a stranger in order to eat. Gone are the bobbing heads of the people in front of you. Every single person gets their own plush leather Inorca® recliner. Yes, it reclines! Attached to the recliner is a dining tray that you don’t have to share with a single soul.
It’s pretty fair to say that in the past no one went to SMG Plano for the spectacular food. But the menu is getting a serious upgrade too. The Dallas-based chain is making several additions to the menu to include fresher and healthier items like Sriracha Chicken Flatbread, Tempura Green Beans with Creole Dipping Sauce, Coconut Chicken Bites, and Farm-to-Table Crudité with freshly prepared ranch dip. The kitchen in the Plano location will be fully remodeled, and in most cases, the meal should be on the table before the movie starts.
Upon their reopening, ticket prices will be lowered temporarily as a thank-you to Plano moviegoers. SMG also signed another 15-year lease in the same spot. CEO Brian Schultz says, “We plan on being a long-standing member of the Plano community.
“We really like this community and it’s where we started. We feel like we almost need to give [the theater] a little extra to make sure that it’s absolutely the flagship that we want it to be. It really, as the original site, deserves that respect.”
While the Plano location is closed, you can visit the brand new Studio Movie Grill in The Colony or several other Dallas locations.
