Planoite Glen Ayers' work is the subject of a new exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Visual Art in Downtown Plano.

Plano’s Museum of Contemporary Visual Art has a new exhibit for the season, this time by 80-year-old Vietnam veteran Glen Ayers.

Ayers is a self-taught artist, described by fellow artists as “reminiscent of Chagall’s dreamscapes.” He uses diverse materials, like paper, charcoal, recycled objects, vintage advertisements and urban waste to create pieces that nod to his many decades of experience.

“I paint what I feel – not just what I see,” Ayers said.

He started painting in an art class at Amarillo College before being drafted to Vietnam. He continued his art there, shipping back his art until he could return. Later, he moved to Plano where he was even president of the Plano Art Association in the early aughts.

“His art blends imaginary figures, angels and cultural symbols to reflect themes of life, war, freedom and dreams,” a press release said.

We got a sneak peek into some of his art:

Since opening in January of last year, the Glen Ayers Exhibition is the ninth for the museum curators. Since being established, the museum has received master artworks from three donor families to add to its permanent collection and established two rooms to focus on child art and children’s artistic accomplishments. With a newly established board of directors and a Cultural Arts Commission grant, the museum’s directors are looking forward to future collaborations and upcoming exhibitions.

MOCVA is located at 1201 E 15th St. and is open Fridays and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
