Williams officially named new superintendent

The Plano ISD Board of Trustees unanimously voted March 21 during a special meeting to appoint Dr. Theresa Williams as the district’s next superintendent.  She replaces outgoing superintendent Sara Bonser, who announced her retirement in January.

Williams previously served as the district’s deputy superintendent. She was named the lone finalist for the top role on Feb. 28.

Per state law, a 21-day waiting period is required before candidates for superintendent can be officially hired.

“I appreciate the board’s vote of confidence and for entrusting me with the leadership of such an amazing school district,” Williams said in a district release announcing her official appointment. “I look forward to working with this dedicated board of trustees, as well as with our talented and caring faculty and staff, to ensure a seamless transition of leadership while honoring Plano ISD’S tradition of excellence.”

District officials say that Williams is planning a serious of “engagement opportunities” to connect with the community. More information on upcoming meet-and-greet events will be announced in the coming weeks.
