A recent SmartAsset study ranked Plano the second safest city in the United States, only preceded by Virginia Beach.
The study looked into cities with populations greater than 250,000 based on violent crime rates, property crime rates, motor vehicle fatality rate and disaster risk.
In those metrics, Plano ranked fifth lowest in violent crime rate (1.5 per 1,000), sixth in property crime rate (14.7 per 1,000), thirteenth lowest in auto fatalities (6.9 per 100,000) and “relatively high” in disaster risk.
These combined scores kept Plano far above other Texas cities, with Laredo following at #6 and Arlington at #19. Notably, both Dallas and Houston were ranked in the least safe cities.
