Collin College is bringing in new sports in next two school years with the addition of golf, esports and volleyball.
The Collin College Board of Trustees voted in January to add these sports to the lineup, with golf and esports to come in 2024-2015 school year and women’s volleyball to come during the 2024-2026 school year. The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) approved the request earlier this month.
The current programs, tennis and basketball, compete in the Division I level of junior college sports. Housed in the Plano campus, the women’s basketball team is currently ranked third in the NJCAA National Coaches Poll, the men’s tennis team was ranked fourth in the nation in an early season poll and the women’s tennis team ranked ninth for its division, according to a news release.
“This expansion not only enhances our competitive landscape,” said Albert Tezeno, athletic director and vice president of student and enrollment services at Collin College. “It also enriches the collegiate experience for our student athletes.”
The Lady Cougars have one last home game this month scheduled for Feb. 21 at 5 p.m. facing McLennan Community College. The team is facing a nearly undefeated season, with one loss to McLennan earlier this season. The men’s team also faces McLennan tomorrow at 7 p.m.
Collin College Athletics is located at 2800 E. Spring Creek Parkway Suite D-12.
