Community honors mayor’s summer interns

A special group of local students was honored Monday at the Plano Event Center for their hard work this summer. Members of the mayor’s summer internship program lead a drive-by parade through the entrance plaza. They were cheered on by Mayor John Muns, city staff, school officials, and representatives from many of the businesses that worked with the students this summer.

The mayor’s summer internship program gives local students the opportunity to gain real world experience by working with local businesses. The initiative is now in its eighth year. More than 80 students participated this summer with local businesses like Capital One, Liberty Mutual, Minnie’s Food Pantry.

For the second consecutive year, the pandemic necessitated a drive-by parade in lieu of a formal program and luncheon with keynote speakers.  Each student received a City of Plano swag bag that included sunglasses, a pen, stainless steel travel mug and more.
