How Planoites can order fresh produce, beef, eggs and more directly from local farms
As social distancing measures make it anxiety-provoking for some to even go to the grocery store, farms have stepped up to make the acquisition of food easier. Whether neighbors are able to get out of the house or not, fresh produce, meats and eggs are still available from farmers surrounding the Metroplex.
“The customers I have built relationships with over the last several years never had to worry about buying pork, beef, chicken or eggs when grocery store shelves were empty. They called me, placed an order and picked it up a few days later,” said Thomas Locke, the farmer at Bois d’arc Meat Company in Windom, Texas.
Thomas believes a shift to more reliance on nearby farms could be a long-term positive change well after the pandemic has subsided. “In addition to the benefit of not having to worry how to feed your family, the animals are raised in a way that benefits the environment, they taste great and money is kept in the local economy.”
