This year Plano Public Library Celebrates its 60th birthday. Join the celebration with this month’s Top 5 Things to Do at Your Library.

From preschool to professional, Plano Public Library (PPL) has something for everyone. Take a look at PPL’s free programs – offered both in-person and virtually – for all your educating and entertaining needs:

  1. Join the Celebration! 

“April Art” (all ages)

Creating art together! This year, the April Art Exhibit will celebrate Plano Public Library’s 60th birthday! Contribute to the Library’s Annual Art Experience by attending April Art programs and making pieces to display in the showcase. Pieces will be on exhibit April 17-19 at Haggard Library.

2. Learn from Local Artists – 

  •  “Spotlight Art” (all ages) 

Learn about art from local artists. Spotlight Art begins with an educational demonstration of creative techniques, followed by a hands-on workshop where you can make your masterpiece!

  • Chalk Art with Santos Lozano

Experience the vibrant world of chalk art with the extraordinary Santos Lozano! Watch as he transforms the Davis Library circle drive into a stunning outdoor canvas, showcasing his unique style in a live demonstration. Afterward, step inside and join him for a hands-on workshop where you’ll learn to create your own chalk masterpieces.

  • Clay Basics with Leela Rao

Step into the world of clay art with local artist Leela Rao! Watch as she brings clay to life in a captivating demonstration of her unique style. Then, roll up your sleeves and join in the fun—you’ll get the chance to sculpt your own creation under her expert guidance. Don’t miss this hands-on experience that’s perfect for artists of all levels.

Learn about the Holi festival and South Asian culture through a variety of activities for all ages.

4. Try Techniques for at Home Composting— 

  • “Worms Eat My Garbage” (all ages)

Don’t let the worms crawl in and out! Put them to work! Presented by City of Plano Sustainability & Environmental Education

We’ll teach you to use specialized red worms to compost your plant-based food waste. Then use their waste as a fertile soil amendment to benefit your plants. Help us harvest and use the worm castings to make worm tea for the garden.

  1. Join in the “EGGstravaganza” (all ages)

Join Plano Public Library and Texas A&M Extension Office as we welcome Spring with chicks hatched in the library! Learn about the incubation process and be there for the big day.

  • Pop Up: Egg Candling

Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Office will be checking in on the chicken eggs in the incubator. The eggs will be held up to a light, allowing you to see the chick inside!

Join us for an EGG-citing good time as we celebrate the hatching of baby chicks.
