The project will double the patient tower size, with additional beds, a four-story vertical expansion, three new rooftop helipads and more.

Major construction will begin this month to double the patient tower at Medical City Plano.

The expansion will add more than 131,700 square feet, including 60 additional beds for medical and surgical patients, a four-story vertical expansion, three rooftop helipads with EMS support space and shell space to accommodate future additional beds, a press release said.

“Since opening in 1975, Medical City Plano has been the destination of choice for healthcare excellence in Collin County and beyond,” said Ben Coogan, CEO of Medical City Plano. “This vital and exciting growth will positively expand our system of care, enabling us to treat more patients with complex conditions close to home.”

According to a press release, the hospital tower first opened in 2019 to serve patients with serious and life-threatening conditions and is now the only Level 1 Trauma Center in Collin County.

The construction is set to finish in 2026.
