PepsiCo Foods North America (PFNA), headquartered in Plano, announced a program that aims to provide experience for future leaders in the agriculture space. The initiative is called Planting Pathways and caters to college students.
The program includes a two-year student cohort developed with national nonprofit: Farm Foundation. Students have the opportunity to work a paid internship within PepsiCo.
“PFNA (PepsiCo Foods North America) has provided me with so much knowledge on the agricultural industry,” PFNA internship participant, Gwendolyn Childs said. “The most beneficial thing I have gained from joining the Field to Future program is the confidence associated with seeing and meeting so many women in agriculture who have forged their paths in the industry. It has given me a lot of hope and excitement toward where my career will go.”
Recent USDA Census of Agriculture data shows that farmers under the age of 35 make up 9% of the U.S. farming industry. Planting Pathways seeks to expand the industry’s impact by training young leaders for successful careers in agriculture.
“Before pursuing a career in agriculture, I knew very little about the industry. I did not realize how much hard work and dedication goes into growing food and getting it to the plates of many Americans,” internship participant and Louisiana State University student, Joy Tate said. “Since beginning my internship, I have a better understanding of the agriculture industry’s endless job opportunities, as well as a profound appreciation for growers and suppliers. I couldn’t be more excited to learn more and educate others about this innovative, dynamic industry.”
PFNA’s Plano headquarters is located at 7701 Legacy Drive.
