Kate Hilton, a recent Plano East Senior High School graduate, was announced on July 18 as the recipient of the 2018 Elizabeth Abrams Memorial Scholarship from Communities Foundation of Texas.

The Elizabeth Abrams Memorial Scholarship was created to honor the memory of Lizzie Abrams, a former student at Plano East High School. Lizzie excelled in all areas of school including both athletics and academics. She was a record setting swimmer and held the school record for the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay until 2015. She also was the recipient of the Academic All-State Award.

The Elizabeth Abrams Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a Plano student who participated in swim team their senior year. According to the Communities Foundation of Texas, they choose to award a student who excels scholastically and athletically, participates in the community and demonstrates leadership skills.

Kate was a clear choice for this year’s scholarship. While attending Plano East Senior High School, Kate swam for the school’s varsity team for four years, two of those years spent as team captain. Kate was deemed an AP Scholar with Distinction and was an active member in National Honor Society, Spanish Club and Interact Club.

Come fall, Kate plans to attend the University of Texas at Austin studying psychology. As recipient of this year’s Elizabeth Abrams Memorial Scholarship, she will be granted $3,000 to put toward her education in psychology.
