St. Andrew UMC Seeks Donations for its 9th Annual Free Prom Closet

This spring, St. Andrew United Methodist Church will offer its 9th annual completely free Prom Closet to the community. The event was started in 2009 by the St. Andrew United Methodist Women as a way to make sure local young ladies wouldn’t have to miss their prom due to financial hardship.

The first year, St. Andrew UMC’s Prom Closet provided 35 dresses to local high school girls, and last year over 800 girls received dresses and accessories. Dresses sized 0 to 28 are available to choose from, many of which have never been worn. The only requirement is that girls must be present to select their dress and accessories.

“The impact the dress makes on the girl and her family is simply immeasurable,” said Devra Helffrich, an original organizer of the Prom Closet.

The 9th annual Prom Closet will be offered 4-8pm on March 28-30 and 9am-noon on April 1 in the Smith Worship Center of St. Andrew UMC at 5801 W. Plano Parkway, 75093.

How you can help:

Organizers are asking the community to bring donations of new or like-new formal dresses, shoes and accessories to Room 133 of St. Andrew UMC at 5801 W. Plano Parkway. Donations will be accepted February 18-26 (Sundays 8am-noon, Monday-Thursday 8:30am-5pm and Friday 8:30am-1pm.) To deliver a donation, please park in the east parking lot off of Mira Vista.
