Enjoy the eclipse, add to the Artful Blooms art installation and beef up your financial know-how with this month’s top 5 things to do at your library.

From preschool to professional, Plano Public Library (PPL) has something for everyone. Not interested in reading? No biggie – PPL is #morethanbooks! Check out some of their upcoming events – in-person and virtual – for all your educating and entertaining needs:

  1. Enjoy the eclipse (all ages)

The total solar eclipse is coming across Plano on Monday, April 8. There are a variety of events going on across the city, including a Total Eclipse Spectacular at all five PPL locations. Join us at 1pm at Davis, Haggard, Harrington, Parr and Schimelpfenig libraries to participate in a plethora of activities and watch the eclipse in person. Limited supply of viewing glasses available at all five Plano Libraries.

  1. Celebrate art (all ages)

Make art throughout April and come to the Artful Blooms installation at Haggard Library – May 3-4. The installation will feature art created by the community at April Art programs:

  • Community Art Night – April 9 from 6:30-8pm at Haggard Library (all ages)
  • Recycled Art – April 14 at 2pm at Davis Library (all ages)
  • Watercolor Florals – April 16 at 6:30pm at Schimelpfenig Library (ages 13 and up)
  • Suncatchers – April 21 at 2pm at Parr Library (all ages)
  • Henna Flowers – April 22 at 2:30pm at Harrington Library
  • Mosaic Tiles – April 9-30 at all five locations in the Spark Space

  1. Boost financial skills (all ages)

April is Financial Literacy Month, and the library is ready to help you increase your knowledge and skills around money. Check out these upcoming workshops:

  • Build Your Financial Know-How – April 6 at 2pm at Parr Library, presented by Regions Bank (adults)
  • Estate Planning Basics – April 17 at 6:30pm at Parr Library, presented by First United Bank (adults)
  • STEAM Emporium – April 21 at 2pm at Harrington Library (all ages, ticketed)
  • Building Wealth for Teens – April 22 at 3pm at Schimelpfenig Library (grades 6-12)
  • Investments: Getting Started – April 25 at 6:30pm at Davis Library and virtually, presented by Bank of America (adults)
  • Counting Coins – April 27 at 3pm at Davis Library (grades K-5)

  1. Learn Photoshop (ages 13+)

Parr Library is hosting a Photoshop: Digital Painting class in the Digital Creation Space on Monday, April 22 at 6:30pm. During this class, you will learn how to create digital art using a variety of tools and brushes available in the Photoshop software. Space is limited, and tickets are available 30 minutes before the class begins.

 

  1. Explore quilting (ages 13+)

Planning, designing, cutting and sewing a quilt can be a daunting task. Explore the terminology, techniques and time necessary to transform fabric into a quilt at the Quilting for Beginners class on Saturday, April 27 at 3pm at Parr Library.
