Top five free things to do at your Plano Public Library this February

From preschool to professional, Plano Public Library (PPL) has something for everyone. Not interested in reading? No biggie – PPL is #morethanbooks! Check out some of their upcoming events – in-person and virtual – for all your educating and entertaining needs:

1. Create art at the library
(Tweens and teens. ticketed)

Learning a new creative skill can seem daunting when you do not know where to start and need supplies. Tween and teens can learn the basics of watercolor techniques in a hands-on workshop at Haggard Library on Saturday, February 12 at 3 p.m. This class has limited spots, and tickets will be available in-person beginning the day of the program at 2:30 p.m.

2. Share your love of delicious dumplings
(Adults, registration required)

The library’s Cook the Book monthly foodie (virtual) meet-up is exploring dumplings, whether that’s a pierogi, gyoza, empanada, knish or samosa! Choose your favorite recipe (from your own collection or ours), prepare it, and participate in a robust discussion on cooking via Zoom. Cook the Book meets on Tuesday, February 15 at 1 p.m. Register here.

3. Boost your sustainable gardening skills
(Adults, registration required)

The Sustainability and Environmental Education Division is teaming up with PPL for “Little Gardens, Big Results”, a virtual workshop showcasing how you, too, can grow your own food no matter the space available. “Little Gardens, Big Results” meets on Thursday, February 17 at 11 a.m. via Zoom. Register here.

4. Explore career paths
(Adults)

Are you looking to start a new career, switch fields or return to work after time off? Do you wonder what the job market is like? On Tuesday, February 22 at 7 p.m. at Haggard Library, come to the “Navigate Job and Career Options” workshop to learn ways to think about careers and navigate the education path to get there.

5. Get budget happy
(Adults, registration required)

When it comes to your marriage, just talking about money goes a long way. To get the conversation started, Bank of America will cover 10 topics to help you and your partner budget happily ever after at their “Marriage and Money” virtual workshop on Thursday, February 24 at 6:30 p.m. Register here.

If you do not already have a Plano Public Library card, be sure to register online here. All Plano Public Library locations are open to use computers, browse the collection, and attend in-person programs. Porch side pickup for holds is available, and you can always access eLibrary content online.
