Art exhibits, karaoke, shadow puppet shows, parenting workshops, pop-up author visits… for free?
From preschool to professional, Plano Public Library has something for everyone. Not interested in reading? No biggie – they’re #morethanbooks! See what’s happening this month at the five public libraries near you:
1. Out and about at Plano ArtFest
(ages 0-100)
This year the Plano ArtFest is on Saturday and Sunday, April 27 and 28 at Haggard Park – and your local library will be there! Sign up for a library card, learn about art resources at the libraries and make your own creative creations during this two-day extravaganza.
2. Big wheels keep on turning
(ages 0-100)
Get up close and personal with some big city trucks at the library! All ages are welcome at this event, with a truck-focused story time and an outdoors exploration of trucks you see in your neighborhood on Friday, April 19 at 3 p.m. at Davis Library. Bring your camera, as there are plenty of photo opportunities.
3. Celebrate bookmark art
(ages 0-100)
At the Bookmark Art Contest Celebration, they are all about creativity! Beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 25, see the winning bookmark art contest entries, tour the 18st AIRSpace, meet artist-in-residence Caterina Provost-Smith and get creative at multiple art stations while making group art. Celebrate the creativity of our local bookmark artists with the 2019 Winners Ceremony beginning at 7 p.m. The Bookmark Contest and Celebration is funded by Friends of the Plano Public Library.
4. Tiny Techies
(ages 0-100)
In Tiny Techies, PPL will introduce you and your preschooler to technology concepts in this special story time series. Tiny Techies is a three-week class, running weekly on Thursdays from April 25 through May 9 at Harrington Library at 10 a.m. In each session you and your child will hear stories, learn a new coding and technology topic and get hands-on with age-appropriate devices.
5. Explore your ancestry
(ages 18+)
Plano Public Library’s Genealogy Center is housed at Haggard Library, and offers monthly workshops to help you get started and continue your heritage research. In April, there are a few classes and interest group meet-ups, but to get started you should attend Genealogy 101 on Thursday, April 4 at 9:30 a.m., and then continue your skill building at Genealogy 201 on Thursday, April 18 at 9:30 a.m., where you will learn how to find vital records. No registration required for this class, come ready to learn!
