Plano Fire Chief Sam Greif has been named the new deputy city manager, effective Jan. 2022. He replaces Greg Rushin, who is retiring after serving in that capacity since Sept. 2019. Rushin was previously Plano’s police chief.
In a Nov. 2 press release announcing the move, Greif was described as a “dynamic, knowledgeable professional with a proven track record of leadership.” Before coming to Plano in 2015, he spent 30 years with the Fort Worth Fire Department. Among the roles he held there were deputy chief, operations, operations battalion chief, support services chief and fire communications chief. He holds a master’s degree of public administration from the University of Texas at Arlington
The role of deputy city manager is responsible for Plano’s public safety departments which include Fire-Rescue, Police, Public Safety Communications, Emergency Management and Animal Services.
