Art, music and a sexy cupid come together for a great cause on Sunday, Feb. 12 at Art is Life Studio’s Be mIND Valentine party benefiting the Brain Injury Network of Dallas (BIND).
Singer/songwriters Kelly Nygren, Lorynn the Redhead and Zach Pohl will perform. Diana Almand, Keanna Pohl and Urban Hippie Sister will be selling art, original jewelry, spa and beauty items. Romano’s Macaroni Grill is generously donating delicious eats for the party. Food with Benefits will provide tasty yet healthy appetizers, as well as red velvet cupcakes and a two-tier red velvet cake. The studio’s resident adorable cupid, Tony, will be available for photos against a Valentine’s Day-themed backdrop. Art Is Life Studio is also offering boudoir photo session rates at half-price, with a portion of sales donated to BIND.
Art Is Life Studio, newly relocated to the Yeager Office Suites of Plano, is now in its second year. The studio hosts art events and workshops, as well as providing photography and writing services.
Studio owner Jenice Johnson Williams found a kindred spirit in Valerie Gotcher, BIND’s executive director, upon meeting at a Plano Chamber of Commerce event. After learning more about BIND’s mission, meeting the volunteers and offering photo services at one of their events last year, Jenice wanted to help raise funds for their next big step — a new location.
“I love what they are doing. They provide a real community for brain injury survivors,” Jenice remarked about BIND. “Survivors have said they feel like they are part of a team and no longer feel lonely or isolated. It feels like a family, they work together and, for me, reflect the beauty of coming out of the other side of darkness.”
Valerie commented, “In the United States, a brain injury occurs every ten seconds, and in Texas, at least 400 cases are reported every day. We are understanding, now more than ever, that these injuries often cause chronic health conditions … For brain injury survivors, BIND is the next step in their journey to leading a productive life. With sincere thanks to the Plano community and our friend Jenice, the future success of our program is possible.”
Tickets for the Be mIND Valentine fundraiser are available online or at the door for $10.
