National Ballet of Texas, Plano’s professional dance company, will soon debut its second season on August 1 titled Le Train Bleu: A Journey Into Picasso.
The show was originally performed by the Ballet Russes in 1924 with costumes designed by Coco Chanel and the set designed by Pablo Picasso.
“Le Train Blue is an iconic one act ballet we have chosen to open our second season for its rich historic value and wonderful sense of fun,” Founder/Director Cindi Lawrence Hanson said. “Originally produced in 1924 by Sergei Diaghilev’s Ballet Russes, it satirizes the fashionable, wealthy youth of the 1920s vacationing on the French Riviera.”
To add to the experience, NBT is collaborating with local artists to add four commissioned works inspired by Pablo Picasso to the second act.
Following a season that included two full-length productions, nine original works, staged excerpts from three classical ballets, the 2026 season will include a performance on August 15 at Celebrate the Arts, October 17 at Plano International Festival, La Train Bleu, and three performances of The Nutcracker during the holiday season.
In addition, the company launched a pilot program this spring, Silver Slippers, that teaches ballet classes to older adults at senior communities.
