‘Neath the Wreath 2020 Goes Home for the Holidays

Despite the ongoing pandemic, ‘Neath the Wreath is not canceled this year – it’s just going virtual. Put on your coziest jammies, turn on a holiday movie and join the Junior League of Collin County (JLCC) for its annual holiday gift market from the comfort of your home. The virtual event will happen on the new ‘Neath the Wreath mobile app and at neaththewreath.org Nov. 12-15.

This year will be one of the most important to support JLCC through your participation in the holiday market. Due to the pandemic, Collin County has seen a rise in domestic violence, food insecurity and unemployment. Each year, ’Neath the Wreath raises funds that support organizations that work in these areas, and more than ever these organizations need your help.

“Over the last 25 years, Junior League of Collin County members have generously given their time and resources to this beloved fundraiser. Our committee is creating various opportunities to support the merchants and mission of the Junior League of Collin County,” said current JLCC President Amanda Konersmann.

You can also enter a raffle for amazing prizes such as a “glamping” experience, a weekend in the hill country at La Cantera Resort & Spa or beautiful fresh florals for a year. Meet the Volunteers

We checked in below with some of the ladies who – besides collectively volunteering more than 1,000 hours annually – work hard to make the magic of ‘Neath the Wreath happen! Find out why these JLCC members love this event so much.

Christy Morris, 2020 ‘Neath the Wreath Chair

Which JLCC project is the most special to you?
My Friend’s House is a nonprofit we support that has a special place in my heart. I love that there is an organization like this that is there to support and be a safe haven for children who have experienced abuse or neglect in their homes.

What are your favorite items to purchase at ‘Neath the Wreath?
I love buying new clothes and home décor items. I always try to find my stocking stuffers, too!

Jessica Marr, 2020 ‘Neath the Wreath Merchant Chair

Which JLCC project is the most special to you?
Close to my heart is our JLCC CARES initiative. Our volunteers facilitate arts and crafts sessions four times a month for the patients at the Center for Pediatric Eating Disorders at Children’s Health Plano. I’ve had loved ones with eating disorders throughout my life, so I love that we support this project.

What are your favorite items to purchase at ‘Neath the Wreath?
I like to buy new sweaters for the season, holiday decor since we started hosting Christmas at our house a few years ago, and, of course, food. I always must get plenty of jerky and dips!

Lauren Shamblin, 2020 ‘Neath the Wreath Decorations Chair

Which JLCC project is the most special to you?
Does ‘Neath the Wreath qualify as an answer for this? I love being able to participate in the BIGGEST fundraiser of the year so we can continue to make strides in our community.

What are your favorite items to purchase at ‘Neath the Wreath?
I love buying gifts, wrapping paper from Under Wraps and, of course, pies!

Kim Giles, 2020 ‘Neath the Wreath Ladies Night Out Chair

Which JLCC project is the most special to you?
JLCC CARES is close to my heart but I also love being part of Done In A Day. Several JLCC members collaborate with a nonprofit to complete a project in a day or weekend. It is gratifying to see a finished project that helps a nonprofit move toward a goal.

What are your favorite items to purchase at ‘Neath the Wreath?
I look forward to buying new Christmas decorations each year, a few cozy sweaters, a big bag of Killer Pecans and some sleeves of Styrofoam cups from Make Your Mark Texas for parties throughout the year.

Paige Long, 2020 ’Neath the Wreath Invitations/Tickets/Reservations Chair

Which JLCC project is the most special to you?
As a parent and educator, it is important to me to support children in need like My Friend’s House.  I also respect the amazing work JLCC does through JuMP as mentors to juveniles that have been placed on probation for non-violent misdemeanor offenses. JLCC mentors help foster positive self-esteem and life-skills training to reduce the likelihood of reoffending.

What are your favorite items to purchase at ‘Neath the Wreath?
I love finding gifts that are so unique. I have been able to find sports-related gifts for my father-in-law, and home decor and ornaments for my grandparents – they are usually hard to shop for!

Jane Desgrosellier, 2020 ‘Neath the Wreath Volunteer & Hospitality Chair

Which JLCC project is the most special to you?
The JLCC RISE project is the one that inspired me most when I joined. My heart broke for these young adults that have aged out of foster care and oftentimes were homeless before they joined the program. Sharing life skills and spending time with them is such a gift.

What are your favorite items to purchase at ‘Neath the Wreath?
There are so many things, it is hard to list only a few. I always love to buy the yummy dip mixes. I serve them during the holidays, so I buy enough to have for more get-togethers throughout the year. I also grab fun holiday shirts to wear through the Christmas season – they are snarky and amazing.
