North Texas Performing Arts Repertory Theatre will host The Rocky Horror Show in October with audience participation like callbacks, “survival kits,” shenanigans and a costume contest.
The show, geared toward viewers 16 and older, features glam rock-inspired musical that tells the story of an engaged couple caught in a storm who meets a scientist that has created a monster that looks like a tanned, blonde muscular man.
NTPA is upping the experience with audience participation that includes $10 “survival kits” that include glow sticks, balloons and rubber gloves with instructions on when to use the items housed in the souvenir tote bag. The kits can be purchased in advance or at a promotional table before the performance.
In Rocky Horror tradition, those who have not seen the show before, known as Rocky Horror Virgins, can be seated in the front row to participate in a “virgin sacrifice” during the pre-show shenanigans, a surprise activity led by the evening’s host.
During the October 26 show only, there will be a 30 minute costume contest before the show where costumed guests can show off their costumes on stage before the show with audience members voting for the best dressed guest to receive a prize.
The Rocky Horror Show will take place at the Rodenbaugh Theatre at the Willow Bend Center of the Arts from October 18-27 with an ASL-interpreted performance on October 26. Tickets range from $20-32.
