The City of Plano is accepting applications now through Sept. 1 for Plano Citizens Academy, the free, year-long course that allows Plano residents to experience a year in the life of their city.
Want to see where 9-1-1 calls come in, or try on part of the Bomb Unit’s protective gear? The twelve-month program takes residents behind the scenes in a variety of departments and programs in Plano, as well as showing the ins and outs of City of Plano operations.

Participants will get to meet other residents who hold a similar passion for learning about the city, and will learn the basic roles and functions of municipal government through in-person simulations, tours and activities as well as face-to-face meetings with various city departments.
The class will gather for monthly two-hour sessions at locations across Plano. Each class dives into different areas of municipal service such as transportation, economic development, Parks and Recreation and the Plano Animal Shelter.
