Plano among top suburbs for coworking spaces

Coworking Cafe ranked Plano as the seventh in the nation and first in Texas for number of suburban coworking spaces.

In a recent coworking study of suburban cities, Plano ranked seventh in the nation and first in Texas for the most coworking spaces.

The study sought out suburbs with more than 10 coworking spaces, finding 37 across the country. The study found that 44% of coworking spaces are found in the suburbs, while 56% are in urban areas.

“Historically, the picket-fence lifestyle has always been the epitome of the American dream — and, during times when remote work has become more widely available and Millennials have settled down to raise families, larger and more affordable spaces on a cul-de-sac make perfect sense,” Coworking Cafe said in their report. “But, with work and personal lives so intertwined (especially during the pandemic years), it was expected that jobs would hit closer to home — literally. As such, suburbs have welcomed not only standalone businesses, but also flexible workspaces among their cores.”

With 19 coworking spaces, Plano falls at number seven, right under Irvine, Newport Beach and Oakland, California; Arlington, Virginia; Scottsdale, Arizona; and Boca Raton, Florida. Frisco and Irving also made the list with 14 and 11 coworking spaces, respectively.

Coworking spaces are environments designed to accommodate people from different companies to work in the same space. Dallas-Fort Worth’s coworking spaces are dominated by larger operators like Regus, Lucid Private Offices, Executive Workspace and Caddo, according to Coworking Cafe.

This comes as no surprise, as Plano has become a hub for Fortune 1,000 companies and corporate headquarters. In 2022, Plano was home to 19 major private employeers that employed more than 1,000 employees and 16 that employ 500-999 employees, according to Plano Economic Development.

For smaller businesses, coworking spaces offer areas for corporations to work without having to drive into the city. Plano’s coworking spaces include Plano Caddo Office Reimagined, Spaces West Plano Village, Park Ventura, WorkSuites Legacy, Spaces Shops of Legacy, WorkSuites West Plano, Plano on Park, Spaces Legacy Central,  Legacy West,  6900 Dallas Parkway, Plaza at Legacy, Legacy Town Center, Plano Shops at Legacy and more.
