Plano Parks & Rec to host free certification classes for those wanting to work at aquatic centers this upcoming summer.

The weather outside might be frightful, but Plano Parks and Recreation is getting ahead with free prep classes for the 2023 aquatic season.

The department is offering free certification preparatory classes this month for those 14 years old or older wishing to become a certified lifeguard, water safety instructor or swim teaching assistant.

The lifeguard prep classes will take place December 20, 21 and 28. Water safety instructor and swim teaching assistant prep classes will be held on December 21 and 29.

Plano has several aquatic centers with job openings, including Oak Point Recreation Center, Plano Aquatic Center, Jack Carter Pool and Tom Muehlenbeck Recreation Center. The city was crowned “best in Texas for pool lovers” earlier this year in a national StorageCafe study.

Those interested can sign up online or view available positions on the Parks website.
