A relatively new recreational activity on the North Texas scene, Planoites will soon have not just one, but two nearby options for axe-throwing. Stumpy’s Hatchet House, originally started in New Jersey, claims it was the first recreational axe-throwing venue in the United States. Locals Anthony and Heather Hare are opening their own Stumpy’s location along the Dallas North Tollway near Toyota Stadium in Frisco, and hope to be open for business by the end of July or early August.
“My husband, Anthony, and I have three daughters, and in January of 2019 they were all home on break, so we decided to check out an axe-throwing place nearby. It was a rainy day and we just wanted to get out and do something with the kids. We had so much fun, and Anthony was like, ‘We should do this!’ He did some research, and we found Stumpy’s, connected with them and got started,” Heather shared.
The Hares say that Stumpy’s Hatchet House sets itself apart from most other axe-throwing venues because it offers a more relaxed, hospitable feel. There will be comfortable couches, chairs and tables spread around. The space will be a great fit for corporate events, birthday parties and bachelor parties. Guests can bring in whatever food they’d like, and the venue is BYOB as well. The Hares hope to eventually have a bar inside of the venue.
Due to the fact that Anthony and Heather will be opening this venue in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, they are already planning ahead for a safe opening. Staff will be sanitizing all furniture and axes between uses, and will be maintaining physical space between visiting groups. Rather than occupying the entire facility, guests will be spaced out in every other pit. All employees will wear masks and have their temperature taken before the start of each shift.
