Williams High School selected to participate in SPARK! Dallas’ art installment

The Whispers Along the Hollow-themed installation features the story of a camper in search of his tent after getting lost in a fairy-ridden forest.

SPARK! Dallas, an interactive pop-up arts installment in partnership with area high schools and Meow Wolf, has selected the six schools who will participate in the creation of this year’s pop-up, including Plano’s Williams High School.

“As SPARK! Dallas celebrates its 10th anniversary, we are committed to showcasing the most creative programs, and that includes PRISMATIC: Fantastical Realms,” SPARK! Executive Director Meg Bittner said. “These talented students will create an immersive art experience for all to see – from young children to adults – so don’t miss its limited showing.”

Though the program received 26 submissions, the chosen schools were selected to participate based on creativity, design elements and proposal submission, according to a press release.

  • Emmett J. Conrad High School (Dallas ISD) – Alice & The Wonderland (red)
  • Greenhill School – Atlantis (white)
  • Hillcrest High School (Dallas ISD) – Ethereal Sky (pink)
  • Parish Episcopal School – Underwater Origami Forest (blue)
  • Richardson High School (RISD) – Purple Quartz Cavern (purple)
  • Williams High School (Plano ISD) – Whispers Along the Hollow (green)

 “Meow Wolf’s expertise lies in seamlessly fusing traditional art with state-of-the-art technology to craft immersive experiences. From intricate sound processing and lighting techniques to captivating scent design, we blend the visual, tactile, aural and olfactory elements to create something wholly unique,” Meow Wolf Lead Exhibition Technical Engineer Daniel Bornhorst said. “Bringing this expertise to our work with the students has been incredibly rewarding. Watching them explore new creative realms and seeing my team mentor the next generation of immersive artists has been a highlight of this collaboration.”

Students in these schools will be mentored by Meow Wolf team members, receive behind-the-scenes tours at Meow Wolf Grapevine and receive funding for materials to help build the rooms.

Williams High School‘s installment will be created by Ana, Ashley, Daisy, Nelsy and Zuly under advisor Emily Garner. The ‘Whispers Along the Hollow’-themed room will feature a dark forest with hidden fairy worlds representing a the story of a camper in search of his tent after getting lost in a fairy-ridden forest.

“Mentoring SPARK! students again this year has been an incredible experience. PRISMATIC gives these young creators a platform to unleash their imagination and innovation,” Meow Wolf Exhibition Manager Christy Howell said. “This partnership truly highlights the intersection of art, technology and engineering, offering students hands-on experience with immersive design concepts that can shape their creative futures.”

The SPARK! Prismatic experience will be open to the public May 31 to September 7 on Saturdays from 10 a.m.. to 8 p.m. and Sundays from 1 to 6 p.m. at Southside on Lamar 1409 Botham Jean Blvd., Suite 4. Tickets and additional information are available online.
