Collin College will be offering a variety of summer camps for middle and high schoolers this summer. Here’s some camps located in the Plano campus to check out:
Photography Camp invites students from 6-12th grade to explore Collin College’s photo studio by making their own professional quality studio portrait, taking photos on campus with instructors, making their own prints in the darkroom and learning the basics of photographic software. Students will also create original t-shirts using Cyanotype material. The camp costs $150 and includes all supplies they will need. ASL Summer Camp 2 is also being held at the Plano campus, where attendees 15-19 years of age will learn nearly 700 manual signs and essential vocabulary, the finger-spelling alphabet and views of deaf culture/disability awareness. The camp will end in a deaf event with pizza and drinks. The two-week camp runs from June 19-30 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and costs $225. Creative Writing Camp allows seventh and eighth-grade students to spend five days working on their creative writing skills in poetry, flash fiction and memoir workshops. The week ends with an open mic for students to share their work with each other, friends and family. Texas All-Star Jazz Camp is a week-long immersive jazz program offers aspiring young musicians aged 13 and up the opportunity to perform music with their peers and learn from daily ensemble rehearsals, master classes and workshops for all skill levels in jazz improvisation and jazz theory. Students will also be invited to attend evening concerts from the faculty band. The week culminates in a Student Showcase. The camp will be held from June 26-30 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuition is $300 and includes a camp T-shirt and tickets to all evening concerts. Daily lunch is available for an additional $50, or campers may bring their own. A limited number of need-based and performance-based scholarships are available on a case-by-case basis. Young Artist Masters Camp will be held July 10-14 from 1-4 p.m. Sixth to twelfth graders will learn about historical and contemporary master artist while creating their own studies investigating the theme, “Character – Who Am I?” A variety of techniques, mediums and compositions will be explored in media-specific studios with instructors like Alana Balch from Allen ISD, Suzy Jones from ArtCentre of Plano, and Angel Dillon from Collin College. Summer Dance Festival is a weeklong dance intensive for beginning through advanced dancers with classes in modern, ballet, jazz, lyrical, contemporary, tap, swing, musical theatre, hip hop, improvisation and more. The camp runs July 10-14 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The registration fee is $150 through May 31 and $175 after that date. Registration closes June 30. Finance Is Fun! Summer Camp is open to students 14-18 years of age, and will discuss financial basics with Collin College professor Kevin Suber and guest speakers from the financial industry for students to learn about careers in the finance and banking industries. The camp runs July 24-27 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and costs $175, including all supplies, a camp T-shirt, and an end-of-camp celebration.
