Despite preparing for the beginning of basketball season, Dallas Mavericks star Luka arranged to have special gifts delivered to 80 patients at Children’s Health Plano and Dallas. They received a pair of Jordan sneakers, a Jordan drawstring bag, a hoodie and socks. Also included were a letter from Luka and a signed photo. To ensure the health and safety of the patients, each gift bad was hand-delivered by a Children’s Health team member.
“I really wish I could have been there to meet and talk to the kids but hopefully this surprise brought a smile to their faces and encourages them to stay strong,” Luka said. “I just want all the kids and parents to know I’m thinking of them.”
Each delivery also included crayons and a “Luka & Bobi” coloring book, featuring the animated best-friend relationship between Luka and his Mavericks teammate Boban Marjanovic. The “Luka & Bobi” video series debuted last season and has been shared with Children’s patients.
To make the day even more special, patients along with their families and hospital staff were treated to pizza as well as frosted cookies adorned with Dončić’s number 77.
Over the past year, Dončić established a foundation dedicated to helping children. He earned the Mavericks’ 2021 Off-Season Community Spotlight Award and was nominated for the NBA Care’s Off-season Community Assist Award.
