Top five free things to do at your Plano Public Library this August

From preschool to professional, Plano Public Library (PPL) has something for everyone. Not interested in reading? No biggie – PPL is #morethanbooks! Check out some of their upcoming events – in-person and virtual – for all your educating and entertaining needs:

1. Set and achieve financial goals

(adults, registration required)

Go beyond the basics by reviewing bill management and spending allocation, setting financial goals like buying a car or home, and building healthy credit / En esta sesión, iremos más allá de lo básico al revisar la administración de facturas y la asignación de gastos, establecer metas financieras como comprar un automóvil o una casa y generar un crédito saludable.

2. View the sun up close and safely

(all ages, ticketed)

NASA Solar System Ambassador Les Murray is coming to Schimelpfenig Library on Monday, August 9 at 2 p.m. to teach Plano about the sun! Safely observe the sun using specially designed solar telescopes, and you will see solar prominences sunspots, magnetic loops and solar eclipses. Learn about the NASA Parker Solar Probe currently diving through the atmosphere of the sun. This is a ticketed event, and tickets will be available 30 minutes prior to program beginning.

3. Get your garden pollinator-ready

(adults, registration required)

The Sustainability and Environmental Education Division is working with Plano Public Library to celebrate World Honey Bee Day! Bees and butterflies and birds, oh my: we’re all a-flutter about pollinators on our patios. Is your yard ready for the winged wonders that bring life and color to every garden? It can be. Learn more about bringing pollinators to your yard and garden on Friday, August 20 at 1 p.m. Register or watch the live stream on the library’s YouTube channel.

4. Build a solid resume

(teens and adults, registration required)

A successful job search starts with a strong resume. From Microsoft Word to online wizards, learn about templates and tools available to help you create and evaluate your resume for maximum impact. Learn how to create, edit, and customize resumes using tools available at home and in the library at the Resume Tips & Tools workshop on Monday, August 23 at 1 p.m. Register or watch the live stream on the library’s YouTube channel.

5. Make a promo video for your business

(adults, registration required)

Whether or not you have Adobe Creative Cloud experience, the library will help you grow your business, and tech skills, during the Grow Your Business with Adobe Creative Cloud: Create a Promo Video workshop on Friday, August 27 at 1 p.m. Learn the basics of filming and editing short videos to post on social media. Register or watch the live stream on the library’s YouTube channel.
