The First Big Blue Swim School in Texas will open on Sept. 26 at 1805 Preston Road in Plano. The new facility in the Preston Shepard Place shopping center will offer weekly 30 to 45-minute swim lessons for children ages three months and up.
Big Blue Swim School was founded in 2009 by national champion swimmer Chris DeJong. It currently has 17 locations across the country, with three more slated to open soon. The new Plano facility will be run by general manager Aaron Crouse, who hails from the area. He says the Plano community is near and dear to his heart.
“I look forward to meeting new faces and seeing old friends as we open our doors for lessons this month,” he said. “The neighborhood is truly in for a treat with this best-in-class swimming facility.”
Olympic gold medal-winning swimmer Tom Dolan was heavily involved in developing the Plano school. Since his retirement, he’s dedicated his days to helping kids learn how to safely navigate the water. He is now the CEO of Level 5 Swim and a franchise partner of Big Blue Swim School.
“After years of swimming competitively on the national stage, I found a true passion for sharing my love of swimming with the next generation,” he said. “Now I am excited to spread awareness of swim safety and bring our unique program to Plano and the surrounding communities.”
In preparation for its grand opening, the school is offering discounted rates for those who enroll. On Sept. 20, Mayor John Muns along with other city officials and VIPs will join the Plano Chamber of Commerce for a formal ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10 a.m.
The school will also host Big Blue Family Fun Day on Sept. 24. The public is invited to come check out the facility. Kids will also be able to partake in face painting, balloon art and ice cream.
